NZTA Road Closure

Traffic to be diverted for surfacing work

The Meeanee Quay intersection will be closed on 8th December 2017 between 6am and 6pm in order for a new road surface to be laid as part of Watchman Road safety improvements.

Manager, System Management Manager Wayne Oldfield says that it is important for the re-surfacing to take place during the daytime in order to ensure a smooth finish.

“Laying the surface in one continuous run during the day, rather than in small sections will ensure we can avoid the creation of bumps in the new road and reduce the potential for damage to the new surface down the track,” Mr Oldfield says.

“This is an important milestone for the Watchman Road Project”.

Motorists travelling north from Napier will be diverted onto Prebensen Drive with signage in place to assist motorists. This will affect people heading to the airport.

Motorists heading to the Westshore will also be diverted onto Prebensen Drive.

Motorists are advised to at least allow an extra ten minutes to their travel plans, especially those with a flight to catch.

The work is scheduled to take place on Friday 8th, with Saturday 9th December earmarked as a contingency day.
